Course Overview!

The Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program is a four-year, full-time doctoral program designed to prepare students for licensure and certification in audiology. The curriculum integrates didactic coursework and extensive clinical experiences, totaling 1820 supervised hours. Students will develop comprehensive knowledge and skills in areas such as diagnostic audiology, hearing aid fitting, implantable devices, auditory processing disorders, vestibular assessment, and pediatric and geriatric audiology. The program emphasizes research methodology and culminates in a doctoral investigative project. Successful completion includes passing several examinations: preliminary, qualifying, and the national PRAXIS examination. The program's rigorous curriculum meets the standards of the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE).

Course Structure

The AuD program combines didactic coursework (69 units) and extensive clinical experiences (51 units). Didactic coursework covers a broad spectrum of audiology topics including diagnostic techniques, hearing aid technology, implantable devices, rehabilitation strategies for both adults and children, auditory processing disorders, and the medical and physiological aspects of hearing and balance. Clinical experiences progress from on-campus practicums to off-campus externships and finally a year-long full-time clinical residency. The program also includes research methods training and culminates in a three-part doctoral project.
