California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) was established in 1947 as Los Angeles State College of Applied Arts and Sciences to address the growing demand for higher education following World War II. Initially operating at Los Angeles City College, the institution moved to its current campus in the hills of East Los Angeles in 1958. In 1964, the college was renamed California State College at Los Angeles, reflecting its expansion in scope and influence. By 1972, it became California State University, Los Angeles, joining the prestigious California State University system.
