Course Overview!

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Television, Film, and Theatre is a three-year program designed to equip students for careers in content creation, acting, and writing for narrative media. The curriculum blends theoretical coursework in theatre, film, television, and new media aesthetics, exploring narrative politics within the contexts of race, gender, and class. Students will also gain practical experience in industry business practices and hone their creative skills through collaborative and culminating projects. The program offers three options: Acting, Content Creation, and Writing, each with specific course requirements. The program aims to develop future storytellers, preparing them technically and artistically for the industry while providing them with the critical historical and intellectual background necessary for success as media artists and scholars.

Course Structure

The 58-unit program comprises 31 units of core courses, 3 units for the culminating project, and 24 units for the chosen option (Acting, Content Creation, or Writing). Core courses cover a range of topics including immersion in theatre and film/television, playwriting, teacher training, acting studio, theatrical producing, industry thriving, television production, production activity, narrative live space, and thesis writing preparation. Options feature specialized courses, such as movement and voice training for Acting, directing and cinematography for Content Creation, and various screenwriting workshops for Writing. All options include elective courses for further specialization.
