Course Overview!

The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program at California State University, Los Angeles, is designed to equip professionals with the technical and managerial skills needed for senior positions in information systems/technology. It offers two options: the Professional option (PMSIS) for current IS/IT professionals, and the Executive option (EMSIS) for managers and professionals outside the IS field. The curriculum covers a range of topics including information systems architectures, systems analysis and design, database management, data analytics, and various specializations. Students will develop expertise in areas like application development, enterprise system management, network technologies, and information security, preparing them for leadership roles in the industry.

Course Structure

The MSIS program requires 30 units of 5000-level courses and includes a comprehensive examination. A common core comprises courses in Information Systems, Communication and Information Services, and a Capstone project. Students must also pass a writing proficiency examination (UNIV 4000). The program then branches into two options: The Professional option (PMSIS) requires courses in IS/IT Architectures and Systems Analysis and Design, followed by elective courses from a wide range of specializations. The Executive option (EMSIS) requires courses in Application Programming and Systems Analysis (I & II), followed by elective courses similar to the PMSIS option.
