The Undergraduate Certificate in Youth Agency Administration is a 21-22 unit program designed to prepare students for careers in nonprofit management, specifically within youth-serving organizations. The curriculum is tailored to the student's existing major, requiring consultation with the YAA director for course selection. It's structured around four key areas: communication, organizational management, youth and family dynamics, and social justice. A significant component is a field experience internship within a non-profit youth organization. This certificate provides practical skills and knowledge applicable to roles in non-profit administration and youth development.
The certificate program comprises four core areas of study. The "Core Courses" require completion of YAA 2900 (Introduction to Youth Agency Administration) and YAA 4670 (Administration of Youth-Serving Nonprofit Organizations). The remaining units are fulfilled by selecting one course from each of the following four subject areas: Communication (options include courses from Communication, Marketing, Public Health, and Social Work); Organizational, Personnel and Fiscal Management (options span Accounting, Child and Family Development, Kinesiology, Management, and Public Health); Youth and Family (courses cover topics such as child development, family dynamics, and youth programs from various departments including Asian American Studies, Child and Family Development, Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies, Kinesiology, Public Health, and Sociology); Social Justice, Intersectional Frameworks, and Community Contexts (options draw from Asian American Studies, Child and Family Development, Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies, Kinesiology, Public Health, and Social Work). Finally, a 3-unit internship in a youth-serving non-profit is mandatory.
