Course Overview!

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Special Education Paraprofessional is designed for individuals working or intending to work in diverse educational settings supporting students with special needs. The program equips participants with the knowledge and evidence-based strategies to effectively assist teachers and other professionals. The curriculum emphasizes practical skills and strategies to support diverse learners in various educational settings. Students will develop expertise in understanding and applying evidence-based strategies to benefit students with varying learning needs and challenges. This program will allow students to improve their skills in assisting students with special needs in a supportive and engaging classroom environment.

Course Structure

The program comprises 12 units. Nine units are dedicated to required courses, including Foundations of Special Education (EDSP 4000), Cognitive, Linguistic, and Literacy Processes in Individuals with Special Needs (EDSP 4010), and Behavior Supports, Social Skills, and Classroom Management (EDSP 4030). The remaining three units are elective courses, offering options such as Working with Families of Young Children with Special Needs (EDSP 4160), Educational Foundations: Schooling in a Diverse Society (EDFN 4400), or other electives approved by an advisor. This structured curriculum ensures a comprehensive understanding of special education practices.
