With its safe cities, stunning landscapes, and affordable tuition compared to other top study destinations, Canada combines quality education with a vibrant lifestyle, making it an ideal choice for higher education. International students in Canada can work up to 20 hours per week during academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks, such as summer or winter vacations.
Upon completing their studies, students can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), which allows them to work in Canada for up to three years, depending on the length of their study program.
• To get Permanent Residency in Canada, first step is to complete a study program at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.
• After completing your program, apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). This permit allows you to work in Canada for up to three years, depending on the length of your study program.
• Use the time on your PGWP to gain full-time Canadian work experience. Typically, a minimum of 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada is required for most PR pathways.
• Choose a PR Pathway. There are several PR pathways you may fit into.
• Express Entry: This is the most common PR pathway for skilled workers. It includes the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The CEC is particularly relevant for international students, as it allows those with Canadian work experience to apply for PR. To qualify, you must meet a points threshold based on factors like age, education, work experience, and language proficiency (English or French).
• Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): Many provinces have their own immigration programs targeting individuals with Canadian work experience. After gaining work experience in a particular province, you may be nominated for PR through the PNP.
• Canadian Experience Class (CEC): If you have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada and meet other eligibility criteria, you can apply through this program under Express Entry.
• Once you’ve gained enough work experience, ensure that you have the required documents, including proof of work, language test results (IELTS or TEF), educational credentials, and any provincial nominations. Then, submit your PR application through the chosen pathway.
• As a permanent resident, you must live in Canada for at least 3 out of the last 5 years (1,095 days) before applying for citizenship. Once you meet the residency requirement, you can apply for Canadian citizenship. After becoming a Canadian citizen, you can then apply for a Canadian passport.

All international students must have health insurance to access healthcare services in Canada. Some provinces (e.g., British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan) provide provincial health insurance for international students, while others (e.g., Ontario, Quebec) require private health insurance.
