Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship is one of the prestigious private scholarships in Canada that funds ongoing PhD’s in Canadian institutions. The foundation works and funds the four main themes it abides by, namely, 1. Human Rights and Dignity, 2. Responsible Citizenship, 3. Canada and the World, 4. People and their Natural Environment. You may take admission in any university of Canada to be eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship offers many benefits including scholarship payment of $50,000 per year for tuition and living expenses with additional $20,000 per year for doing research, networking and travel expenses to complete your project. It also offers other perks such as membership in a vibrant alumni community of 500+ individuals, permission to work part-time with the studies, networking opportunity with mentors and fellows, as well as providing support and encouragement to improve English and French while studying. The deadline to apply for Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship is November 17, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. ET.

To be eligible for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship, applicants must meet specific academic, age, and residency requirements.
Studies Requirement
At the time of application, candidates must be in the first or second year of a doctoral program.
Citizenship
At the time of application, candidates must be a Canadian student in a Canadian university, a Canadian student in an international university, or an international student studying in a Canadian university. Students from international universities that are living outside Canada are not eligible.
Research Matching Foundation’s Four Themes
Candidates’ research must clearly align with one or more of the Foundation’s four themes, namely, 1. Human Rights and Dignity, 2. Responsible Citizenship, 3. Canada and the World, 4. People and their Natural Environment.
Research Doctorate Studies
An eligible doctoral program must be research oriented (PhD, JD, etc.) and must lead to a thesis, dissertation, scholarly publication, etc. Professional doctorates are not eligible. Joint programs with a professional degree (JD/PhD; MBA/PhD, etc.) may be eligible if they have a significant research component.

Receive Your Offer Letter
If your application is successful, you'll receive an offer letter from the scholarship around April. Review the offer carefully and accept it through our portal.
