Course Overview!

The Master of Education in Research and Assessment in Education and Human Services is a 30-credit program designed to equip students with applied research methodologies in education and human services and data-based decision-making for school evaluation and improvement. Unlike programs focused on specific content areas, this program emphasizes transferable research skills applicable to various education-related fields. Students can specialize in research methods and statistics, aligning with careers in research, psychology/sociology, or doctoral studies. Alternatively, they can focus on one of three available advanced graduate certificates: Data-Based Decision Making, Program Evaluation in Educational and Youth-Serving Organizations, or Data Analytics in Education. The program offers a flexible approach catering to students' diverse interests and career goals within the education sector.

Course Structure

The program consists of core courses covering educational research, social foundations, and human development. Students choose one course from several options within each of these areas. A curriculum and instruction core course is also required and there are specialization courses focusing on data-based decision-making and advanced research methods. Specialization options include courses focused on data-driven instruction, interpreting student performance data, educational evaluation and innovation, quantitative data management and advanced research methods. Finally, students must complete a culminating experience: a comprehensive examination, a project, or a thesis. Elective courses can be selected to fulfill the remaining credit requirements.
