The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) program at Cleveland State University is designed to integrate theory and practical applications. It's structured to accommodate both full-time and part-time students, with classes often scheduled in the late afternoon and early evening. The program is beneficial for students aiming for doctoral studies or those not planning further formal education. Students work with advisors to tailor their programs, which involve required courses and electives within chosen specializations. Specializations include Communication Systems, Computer Systems, Control Systems, Power Electronics and Power Systems, and Nanobiotechnology. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in core electrical engineering principles and allows for specialization in a field of interest. The program also includes opportunities for research, thesis work (optional), and potentially financial aid such as assistantships, grants, and internships.
The MSEE program offers both thesis and non-thesis options, with the thesis option encouraged for those pursuing doctoral studies or receiving research funding. All students must meet College of Graduate Studies requirements and departmental stipulations. A maximum of 16 credit hours from outside the department (for nanobiotechnology) or 8 credit hours (other specializations) may be applied. EEC 601 and 400-level courses are not credited towards the degree. Students must take at least four courses from their chosen specialization, including core courses. Each specialization (Communication Systems, Computer Systems, Control Systems, Power Electronics and Power Systems, and Nanobiotechnology) has designated core and elective courses. The thesis option requires a minimum of 30 credit hours, including at least 6 credit hours of thesis work, and 24 credit hours of coursework, with at least 8 credit hours of 600-level EEC courses. The project option requires 30 credit hours, including 4 credit hours of project credit and at least 12 credit hours of 600-level courses. A course-only option mandates 32 credit hours, including at least 12 credit hours of 600-level EEC courses. Students taking CPT need 1 credit hour of EEC 602 per internship semester.
