The Master of Nonprofit Management (MNM) program at Cleveland State University is a two-year degree designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the nonprofit sector. The curriculum focuses on core management functions, including fundraising, financial management, human resource management, philanthropy, proposal writing, program development, and program evaluation. Students will gain a deep understanding of nonprofit structures, processes, and their interaction with public and private institutions. The program leverages expertise from leading scholars and practitioners in social entrepreneurship, volunteerism, and the political dynamics of nonprofits. It offers opportunities for internships, mentoring, and involvement in research units within the College of Public Affairs and Education. The program aims to enhance career prospects, facilitate advancement within organizations, or enable career changes for students.
The MNM program comprises 41 credit hours, consisting of 33 credit hours of core courses and 8 credit hours of electives. Core courses cover a range of topics including nonprofit management in the city, fundraising, community engagement, data analytics for social impact, program evaluation, power, influence, and ethics, nonprofit financial management, nonprofit income sources, and a capstone seminar in public administration. Electives offer additional specialization and allow students to tailor their studies to their interests, with options ranging from public administration to urban design and environmental policy. Students consult with a graduate advisor to plan their schedules and are encouraged to complete an internship if not already in-service professionals. Up to 3 courses may be transferred from an accredited institution.
