The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Chemistry at Cleveland State University is an accredited program designed to provide Ph.D. students with intensive instruction and practical experience in clinical laboratory science. The curriculum is deeply integrated with clinical practice, focusing on disease processes, diagnostic techniques, and analytical methodology within the context of biological and chemical concepts.. The program blends theoretical coursework with practical laboratory experience, preparing students for careers in clinical laboratories, research positions, or roles in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries. Successful completion of the certificate program is awarded concurrently with a Ph.D. degree in Clinical-Bioanalytical Chemistry.
The 32/33-credit certificate program combines theoretical coursework and practical experience. Core courses include Clinical Chemistry I and II, Advanced Biochemistry I and II, Clinical Laboratory Topics: Instrumentation and Quality Operation. One additional course is selected from Biotechnology Techniques I or Pharmaceutical Analysis Laboratory. Further course requirements encompass a clinical internship, special topics in clinical chemistry, and clinical chemistry seminar courses. Students must also meet the requirements for the Ph.D. in Clinical-Bioanalytical Chemistry, including a candidacy examination, annual research reports, and dissertation research.
