Course Overview!

This graduate certificate program focuses on improving intercultural communication and healthcare delivery for professionals working with diverse populations. It addresses the growing need for healthcare providers to effectively interact with clients from various cultural backgrounds. The program utilizes ethnographic methods to teach both theoretical and practical skills in intercultural communication, ultimately enhancing the quality of healthcare services provided. The curriculum emphasizes practical application and involves coursework in communication, research methods, and health care-related topics. The program is designed to be flexible, suitable for working professionals and those already enrolled in graduate programs. The program is open to both working professionals and currently enrolled graduate students with the provision that credits can be employed towards the student's master's coursework.

Course Structure

The certificate program requires students to complete four courses from four different clusters. The clusters are: Cognitive Framework (one course), Methods (one course), Application (one course), and Elective (one or more courses). Specific courses offered include those in communication, health sciences, psychology, and social work. Students can choose from a range of courses covering health communication, qualitative research methods, research and analysis, equity in practice, exposure to interprofessional experiential learning, health disparities, social issues in health care, womens health, special topics, and complementary and alternative medicine. The course selection allows students to tailor their learning to their specific interests and career goals within the healthcare field.
