Course Overview!

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program at Cleveland State University offers a comprehensive exploration of human and animal behavior, thoughts, and emotions. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in core psychological concepts, research methodologies, and statistical analysis. Students develop critical thinking, analytical, and research skills through coursework and hands-on laboratory experiences. The program allows students to specialize in various areas of psychology through elective course choices and independent study, including abnormal psychology, health psychology, social psychology, and neuroscience. The program also includes opportunities for honors study, with options for thesis-based research or advanced coursework.

Course Structure

The Psychology major requires a minimum of 120 credit hours, with 42 hours specifically in psychology courses. Required courses include introductory psychology, a major's guide, behavioral science statistics (with alternatives in statistics or other related fields), research methods, and a psychology laboratory or research evaluation course. Core areas of study include psychological health, social/personality, perception and cognition, neuroscience and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students must choose one course from each core area. Eleven additional credit hours of any psychology course are required, including the possibility of additional core courses. Independent study options are available. Students may also pursue departmental honors, which includes either a thesis or additional graduate-level coursework.
