Course Overview!

The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at Cleveland State University offers a comprehensive education focusing on health, wellness, and science. The program is structured around five tracks catering to various career aspirations. These tracks range from preparing students for graduate programs in health professions (like occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, etc.) to providing a foundation for non-clinical healthcare roles, such as community outreach coordinator or health educator. The curriculum emphasizes the development of analytical, communication, and research skills, along with a strong understanding of health and wellness principles. Regardless of the chosen track, all students must complete a capstone experience and several core courses.

Course Structure

The Health Sciences BS program has a core curriculum including Introduction to Health Sciences, Medical Terminology, and Culture and Health Care. Students then choose one of five tracks: Bachelors Completion Program for Allied Health Associate Degree Holders, General Interest, Health Promotion, Pre-Therapy (Pre-Occupational Therapy or Pre-Physical Therapy), and Pre-Physician Assistant Science. Each track has specific required courses and an area of emphasis requiring at least 51 credit hours. The General Interest track is particularly flexible, allowing students to design their area of emphasis with an advisors guidance to meet their career goals. All students must also complete a bioethics course, a statistics course, and a capstone experience. Certain tracks (like Pre-Physical Therapy and Pre-Physician Assistant Sciences) have extensively detailed course structures with specific subject requirements in biology, chemistry, and physics, while others provide more flexibility in elective choices.
