Course Overview!

The Bachelor of Arts in Media, Culture, and the Arts (MCA) at Clark University is an interdisciplinary program exploring the intersection of media, culture, and artistic expression. Students develop a deep understanding of media's historical, economic, social, and political contexts, while also gaining hands-on experience in various media production workshops. The curriculum blends theoretical study with practical application, covering topics such as documentary production, radio journalism, new media technologies, and critical perspectives on television. Students benefit from a close-knit community within the Visual and Performing Arts Department, collaborating on projects and learning from practitioner-faculty. A significant component of the program involves developing individual creative projects, offering students a chance to express their artistic visions using chosen media.

Course Structure

The MCA major requires at least 13 courses. These include an introductory course covering media theory, history, and analysis; three media production workshops each in a different medium; three courses on the history of sight and sound, each focusing on a different historical period; three courses exploring theories of culture, each from a different academic program; two creative intermedia seminars, and a senior capstone course. Students may also choose to double major with art history, music, screen studies, studio art, or theatre arts. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, research, and creative work, with opportunities for internships, study abroad, and participation in student organizations.
