Course Overview!

Boston College's undergraduate Accounting Concentration is designed to prepare students for careers in various fields, including public accounting, industry, financial institutions, government, information systems, law, and not-for-profit organizations. The program emphasizes ethical leadership and decision-making within the accounting profession. Students gain a solid understanding of capital management and allocation. The curriculum covers core accounting principles and equips students with the necessary skills to succeed in their chosen careers. This includes both core areas of accounting, as well as the skills to prepare for the CPA exam and apply for the Masters in Accounting program. This is a specialisation within a larger business undergraduate degree.

Course Structure

The Accounting Concentration requires six courses. Required courses include Managerial Accounting, Financial Accounting Standards and Theory I & II, Managerial Cost & Strategic Analysis, and Federal Taxation. Students must also select one additional course from a list of electives, including Audit & Other Assurance Services, Financial Statement Analysis, Financial Accounting Standards and Theory III, and Accounting Information Systems. Auditing is a requirement to sit for the CPA exam and for admission to the Boston College Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) Program. Additional accounting electives are available to fulfill most state CPA requirements, which generally necessitate 8-11 accounting classes (24-33 credit hours).
