Course Overview!

The Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program at Boston College's Carroll School of Management prepares students for careers in corporate finance, asset management, and investment banking. The curriculum emphasizes financial analytical skills, covering core areas like investments, corporate finance, and financial econometrics. Students can choose between a full-time (12-month) or part-time (20-month) track. A quantitative finance track, a STEM-designated program, is also available for full-time students, potentially offering eligible international students an additional 24 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation. The program includes core courses, electives, and requires 10 hours of community service for graduation. The program aims to equip students with both theoretical and practical knowledge through a combination of coursework and real-world insights from professors with extensive industry experience.

Course Structure

The MSF program consists of 10 courses. The curriculum varies slightly depending on whether students choose the full-time, part-time, or quantitative finance track. The full-time program typically involves four classes per semester in the fall and spring, with two classes during the summer. The part-time program offers a more flexible schedule, with students taking two classes per semester. Specific core courses (Investments, Corporate Finance, Management of Financial Institutions, Financial Econometrics, Quantitative Portfolio Management, Derivatives & Risk Analytics, Advanced Corporate Finance, and Managerial Statistics) are required. Elective courses provide additional specialization. There is also a community service requirement.
