Course Overview!

The Master of Science in Applied Statistics and Psychometrics program at Boston College equips students with advanced statistical expertise and a strong foundation in psychometrics. The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, preparing graduates for careers in data analysis, research, and related fields. Students will develop skills in various statistical techniques, including multiple regression, multivariate models, hierarchical linear modeling, causal modeling, and longitudinal analyses. Course Structure

The program requires 10 courses (30 credits) and includes a comprehensive exam. Eight courses are core subjects, covering areas such as instrument design and development, intermediate and mathematical statistics, psychometric theory (classical test theory and item response theory), general linear models, multivariate statistical analysis, and multilevel regression modeling. The remaining two courses are electives selected with the help of an advisor. Topics such as Thurstone and Guttman scales, Rasch measurement, parameter estimation, item banking, computerized adaptive testing, differential item functioning, test equating, and multidimensional item response theory models are covered.
