Course Overview!

The Dual Degree M.A. in International Higher Education is a 2.5-year program designed for bilingual students (Spanish/English). It combines courses from Boston College's M.A. in Higher Education with courses from Universidad de Guadalajara's M.A. in International Higher Education. The program focuses on developing a nuanced understanding of global higher education trends, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean. Students engage with research and analysis from various sources, enhancing their critical thinking and analytical skills. The curriculum emphasizes policy, practice, and theory in international higher education, while fostering sensitivity to identity and power dynamics within the field. Upon completion, students earn two diplomas: one from Boston College and one from Universidad de Guadalajara.

Course Structure

The program consists of 32 credits, divided into core courses, field experience, research, and electives. Core courses cover global and comparative higher education systems, the internationalization of higher education, higher education in Mexico and Latin America, and regional perspectives. Field experience involves both research preparation and actual research conduct. A research course on interpretation and evaluation of research is also required. Electives allow students to specialize their studies, with choices from both Boston College and Universidad de Guadalajara. The program culminates in a final applied research project, requiring either thesis courses at Boston College or Universidad de Guadalajara and the BC comprehensive exam.
