Course Overview!

Ball State University's online Master of Science in Data Science program is a 33-credit, non-thesis program designed to equip students with in-demand skills in big data analysis and related fields. Course Structure

The Master of Science in Data Science comprises a total of 33 credit hours. The curriculum includes 15 credits of core courses covering foundational knowledge in data science and 18 credits of elective courses allowing students to specialize in their area of interest. Core subjects cover Introduction to Programming, Introduction to Data Science, Data Visualization, Statistical Methods for Data Science, and Machine Learning and Data Mining. Additionally, students will select two courses in Computational Analytics from options like Data Analytics, Advanced Database Systems, and Data Storage and Management. They will also select two courses in Statistical Computing and Modeling, choices including those in Base SAS 9 and Introduction to Statistical Learning. Finally, students choose two elective courses from a range of specialized applications, such as data analytics for environmental sciences, bioinformatics, social sciences, or health sciences. Students can also earn elective credit through approved Coursera courses from industry partners like Google and IBM.
