Course Overview!

The Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Physics at Ball State University provides a comprehensive education in the fundamental principles of physics, encompassing the study of the universe from the largest galaxies to the smallest subatomic particles. The program emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical problem-solving skills, preparing students for diverse career paths. The curriculum includes a core of foundational physics courses, followed by specialization in General Physics, Applied Physics, or Medical Physics. Course Structure

The Physics major at Ball State University begins with a common core of physics courses for all students. Students then select one of three concentrations: General Physics, Applied Physics, or Medical Physics. The General Physics concentration prepares students for graduate studies or industrial careers in physics, astronomy, or engineering. The Applied Physics concentration focuses on practical applications of physics, particularly in technology and laboratory settings. The Medical Physics concentration trains students for careers in the healthcare industry. Each concentration involves a series of physics courses, including mechanics, thermal physics, electricity and magnetism, and quantum mechanics, with additional courses specific to each concentration. Students also participate in a senior capstone experience, involving an independent research project.
