Ball State University's Pre-Chiropractic Program is a non-degree program designed to prepare students for admission to chiropractic schools. It allows students to fulfill chiropractic school admissions requirements while pursuing a biology or pre-medical preparation major. The program offers affiliations with Logan College of Chiropractic (a 3+3 agreement allowing for up to 32 credit transfers) and National University of Health Sciences (allowing qualified students with a 3.5 GPA or higher to transition to their DC program). Dedicated academic advisors assist students with application timelines, setting benchmarks, and finding shadowing and volunteer opportunities. The curriculum involves core coursework, major-specific requirements (either Biology or Pre-Medical Preparation), and electives, providing a strong foundation for future chiropractic studies. The program emphasizes both theoretical learning and practical experience preparation, to prepare students for professional life as chiropractors. Students will learn the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, focusing on the spine. Improving patient mobility and pain reduction, alongside the promotion of healthy lifestyles through exercise, ergonomics, and therapies are all key aspects of the future profession.
The Pre-Chiropractic program requires completing pre-chiropractic program requirements, the University Core Curriculum, and a major in either Biology or Pre-Medical Preparation. The Biology major option includes required courses in Principles of Biology I & II, Genetics, Ecology, General Chemistry I & II, General Physics I, a methods course (Genetics, Cell Biology, or Ecology), an organic chemistry course and lab, and a mathematics course (Precalculus Trigonometry or Calculus). Five elective courses at the 200 level or above in related fields are also required with many recommended choices. The Pre-Medical Preparation option includes similar core science courses but with specific chemistry and physics requirements, including organic chemistry part 1 and 2, chemical analysis, and general physics I and II. It requires Zoology, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Psychology, and biochemistry (either essentials or principles, with the latter recommended). Additional science and general electives are also required.
