Course Overview!

The Ball State University BS in Medical Technology is a four-year program designed to prepare students for careers as medical laboratory scientists. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on training in bacteriology, chemistry, serology, and blood bank technology. The program includes a year-long intensive clinical laboratory program at an accredited affiliate to provide practical experience. Graduates are prepared to work in hospitals, doctor's offices, and various laboratory settings. The program boasts small class sizes, a dedicated support team, research opportunities, and collaboration with regional health programs to ensure student preparedness. The program also offers opportunities to participate in student organizations, such as the Pre-Health Professions Club.

Course Structure

The Medical Technology major requires 120 credit hours. This includes 45 credits in major coursework, 32 credits in a clinical laboratory program, and 66-70 credits in university core curriculum courses. Core coursework covers a broad range of biology, chemistry, and related sciences. Biology courses include principles of biology, cell biology, microbiology, pathogenic bacteriology, immunology, and animal parasitology. Chemistry courses encompass general chemistry, chemical analysis, organic chemistry, instrumental methods of analysis, and biochemistry. Other required courses include anatomy, human physiology, and mathematics. The clinical portion involves hands-on training in accredited clinical laboratory settings.
