Course Overview!

The Certificate in Infant/Toddler Specialization is an 18-credit hour online program designed for individuals working in infant and toddler settings such as Early Head Start, childcare, home visiting, and developmental therapy. The curriculum focuses on providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in these roles. The program is not open to students pursuing a four-year degree or those holding a post-graduate degree in family and child. It also prohibits students from earning both a Minor in Infant Toddler Specialization during their undergraduate studies and this Certificate post-graduation. The program aims to equip students with the practical and theoretical tools for working with infants and toddlers, covering topics like child wellness, promoting positive behavior, curriculum development, and leadership in childcare programs. The program culminates in an internship, allowing students to apply their learning in a real-world setting.

Course Structure

The 18-credit hour certificate program requires 15 credits of required coursework and 3 credits of electives. Required courses include Child and Family Wellness (ECYF 202), Promoting Prosocial Behavior in Young Children (ECYF 210), Infant Toddler Curriculum and Environment (ECYF 315), Leadership and Management in Child Development Programs (ECYF 320), and an Internship in Family and Child (ECYF 493). Elective options include Creative Experiences for Young Children (ECYF 252) and Parenting (ECYF 380). The internship provides practical experience in an infant and toddler setting, allowing students to integrate their learning and gain valuable, hands-on experience.
