Course Overview!

The Graduate Certificate in Curriculum Development and Leadership is an online program designed to equip students with the skills necessary to design, implement, and evaluate effective curricula. The program focuses on understanding student learning and growth within the context of curriculum development and alignment. Students learn to plan intricate curricula and conduct thorough curriculum reviews and evaluations. This certificate is excellent for students who aim to specialize in curriculum development and implementation, seeking to fulfill building-level administrator licensing needs or advancing their education towards a Master's in Secondary Education, or a Master's in Curriculum and Educational Technology. The program is entirely online and delivered through Ball State University's nationally recognized Teachers College.

Course Structure

The curriculum comprises 12 credit hours. Students must complete EDCU 601 (Principles and Procedures of Curriculum Development) and EDCU 673 (Curriculum Evaluation). They also choose one course from a selection including EDAC 635 (Strategies for Teaching Adults), EDAD 600 (Introduction to Educational Leadership), and EDST 680 (Staff Development to Strengthen Curriculum). Finally, students choose one further course from a list which includes: EDCU 610 (The Elementary School Curriculum), EDCU 620 (The Secondary School Curriculum), EDCU 630 (The Junior High and Middle School Curriculum), and EDCU 640 (The Alternative School Curricula).
