Course Overview!

Ball State University's Graduate Certificate in Community College Leadership is a 15-credit program designed for community college administrators, faculty, staff, and prospective professionals in these roles. It's unique in its focus, with a low student-to-faculty ratio offering personalized attention and mentoring. Students can customize their certificate through elective choices to align with their career aims. Most courses are online. The program integrates a blend of required core courses and electives, taught by graduate faculty within the nationally recognized Teachers College. The curriculum tackles leadership theory, community college intricacies, adult learning pedagogies, diverse student populations, higher education administration, and relevant legal considerations. Upon successful completion, graduates receive a certificate and a notation on their transcript, enabling application of these credits towards a master's or doctoral degree.

Course Structure

The Graduate Certificate in Community College Leadership comprises 15 credit hours. Six credits are dedicated to core courses: EDCC 640 The Community College, and EDCC 698 Community College Leadership Seminar. Nine credits are allocated to electives. The elective courses focus on diverse aspects of community college administration, adult learning principles, higher education policy, student development, and legal aspects within higher education. Students work alongside an academic advisor (Dr. Amanda O. Latz) to select the best electives suited to their unique educational objectives and career aspirations. Electives are offered both online and, in some instances, on the main Ball State campus in Muncie, Indiana. The program also stresses the acquisition of a 3.0 GPA minimum with no grades below 2.0 allowed for course credit in the program.
