Course Overview!

The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Data Analytics & Machine Learning concentration at Ball State University equips students with the skills to analyze large datasets using computer science techniques, including machine learning and artificial intelligence. The program emphasizes critical thinking and decision-making using data analysis in various fields like scientific research and enterprise-level analysis. Graduates will be prepared for high-demand careers in the data science field, such as Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, and Data Engineer. The curriculum involves core computer science coursework, such as programming, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering, along with specialized data analytics courses covering data visualization, database design, data mining, and machine learning techniques. Course Structure

The program comprises 120 credits. This includes 33-36 credits of core computer science major courses covering programming fundamentals, data structures, object-oriented programming, agile development, algorithms, discrete structures, probability, and software engineering. A further 27 credits are dedicated to the Data Analytics & Machine Learning concentration, with courses like Introduction to Data Analytics, Data Visualization, Database Design, Data Analytics, and Data Mining and Machine Learning. The remaining 57-60 credits are allocated to university core courses and electives, allowing students to further specialize or broaden their educational background. Students also have the opportunity to pursue double majors, combining computer science with other STEM fields or business-related disciplines.
