Course Overview!

Ball State University's Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology is a pre-professional program designed to prepare students for graduate studies in speech-language pathology or audiology. The program offers a comprehensive exploration of human communication and its disorders. Students will learn about speech and sound production, acoustics, phonology, anatomy and physiology related to communication, and the psychological aspects of communication disorders. The program also includes observational and practical clinical experiences under the supervision of experienced professionals. Graduates are well-prepared for advanced studies leading to rewarding careers as speech-language pathologists.

Course Structure

The curriculum covers a wide range of topics related to human communication and its disorders. Core courses include the study of speech sounds and their disorders, speech acoustics, language development and its disorders (including child language disorders and neurogenic organic disorders), anatomy and physiology relevant to speech, language, and hearing, and the psychological aspects of communication. The program also provides significant clinical experience within Ball State's on-site Audiology Clinic, offering hands-on practice in various areas of diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology. The program includes a total of 67 credits.
