Course Overview!

Ball State University's Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Innovation and Leadership is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for leadership roles in the dynamic hospitality industry. The curriculum blends core business foundations with specialized courses in food and beverage management, event planning, and hotel operations. Students gain practical experience through hands-on learning opportunities, such as managing the student-run Allégre restaurant, a fine-dining establishment. This experiential learning provides real-world application of classroom knowledge in a professional setting. Faculty includes industry experts who offer practical insights and guidance. The program allows students to select electives aligning with career aspirations, and students can choose between a Bachelor of Arts (requiring a language component) or a Bachelor of Science degree.

Course Structure

The Hospitality Innovation and Leadership program integrates the University Core Curriculum with specialized coursework in business foundations, hospitality and food management, and general electives. Core courses cover fundamental concepts across various hospitality domains. Specialized courses focus on food preparation and science, commercial food operations, restaurant management, event management (including mechanics and promotions, and event production), and lodging management (including strategic operations). Students also complete a capstone project in hospitality innovation and leadership. The program allows for elective choices in service areas to personalize the career path. A language component is required for the Bachelor of Arts degree.
