Course Overview!

The Associate of Arts in General Arts is a two-year program designed to provide a broad foundation in general education. It covers many of the requirements of the basic University Core Curriculum, preparing students for further studies or directly entering the workforce. The program emphasizes a well-rounded education encompassing humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, equipping graduates with critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills. Students gain a diverse skillset applicable to various career paths and future academic pursuits. This program is particularly suitable for students who are unsure which specific field they wish to study further or are looking to build fundamental academic building blocks before transferring to a four-year program. The curriculum's flexibility allows students to tailor their education to individual interests within the framework of general education requirements.

Course Structure

The Associate of Arts in General Arts program requires 60 credit hours. This includes 31 credit hours of general education courses, covering English composition (Rhetoric and Writing and Composing Research), communication, history, and mathematics. The core curriculum distribution requirements account for 15 credits, spanning fine arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, ensuring a well-rounded and diversified education. An additional 29 credits are designated for electives, offering students greater flexibility in exploring subjects alongside essential core courses, potentially allowing specialization in a chosen area. One or two additional courses contribute to fulfilling the University Core Curriculum.
