Course Overview!

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Conservation and Management (ENVC) at Auburn University is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of natural resource management within the context of environmental laws, policies, and societal needs. The program focuses on developing students' abilities to address multifaceted resource management challenges across various environments, such as aquatic ecosystems, coastal regions, urban areas, and ecological restoration projects. Students gain a strong foundation in ecosystem functioning, economic principles applied to resource management, relevant legal and policy frameworks, and sustainable resource conservation practices. The program also includes a required minor, allowing students to specialize in a specific area of interest, such as coastal management, environmental law, or urban forestry, further enhancing their career preparedness.

Course Structure

The ENVC major combines core coursework focusing on environmental conservation and management principles with a required minor. The curriculum covers fundamental biological sciences (including ecology, organismal biology, and principles of biology), chemistry, mathematics (pre-calculus), economics (microeconomics), statistics, and specialized courses in natural resource management, including field methods, environmental ethics, conservation planning, natural resource policy, and ecological economics. Students also engage with GIS applications in natural resources and gain knowledge of forest soils and dendrology. The specific minor selected determines further specialisation within the broader field of environmental conservation and management. Electives are also incorporated to allow flexibility in course selection.
