Course Overview!

The Certificate in Pulp, Paper, and Bio-Resources Engineering is a focused program designed to provide students with specialized knowledge and skills in the pulp, paper, and bio-resources industries. The curriculum emphasizes both the fundamental science and the engineering principles involved in the processing and manufacturing of pulp, paper, and other bio-based products. Students gain hands-on experience through laboratory work, focusing on areas like pulp and paper processing and technology. The program also incorporates biorefinery concepts and biochemical engineering, reflecting the growing interest in sustainable and renewable resource utilization. The program aims to equip graduates with the technical expertise and practical skills needed for successful careers in this important sector.

Course Structure

The certificate program requires a total of 12 credit hours. Nine hours are dedicated to required courses, including Organic Chemistry II Laboratory (CHEM 2081, which requires prior completion of CHEM 2070, CHEM 2071, and CHEM 2080), Pulp and Paper Processing Laboratory (CHEN 4100), Pulp and Paper Technology (CHEN 5090), and Pulp and Paper Engineering (CHEN 5110). An additional 3 credit hours are chosen from either Integrated Biorefineries (CHEN 5130) or Biochemical Engineering (CHEN 5800), allowing for some specialization based on student interests.
