The Undergraduate Certificate in National Security and Intelligence (NSIN) at Auburn University is a 15-credit hour program designed to provide students with a specialized understanding of national security theories and practices in the United States and globally. Open to undergraduates from any major, the certificate program prepares students for careers in the public and private sectors by focusing on both national security studies and the analytical skills essential to these fields. The curriculum is structured to equip students with the knowledge and abilities needed to pursue and succeed in national security-related roles. It is ideal for students who wish to enhance their undergraduate degree with expertise in this critical area.
The NSIN certificate requires 15 credit hours. Students must complete three core courses: Introduction to International Relations (POLI 3090), National Security Policy (POLI 3160), and Strategic Intelligence (POLI 4720). In addition, students must choose 6 credit hours from a selection of electives that explore various aspects of international relations, foreign policy, conflict resolution, and national security issues. Elective options include courses focusing on American foreign policy, Russian foreign policy, Middle Eastern international relations, international security, international conflict resolution, and specialized topics in international relations or internships in the field. The specific electives are subject to approval by the certificate director.
