Course Overview!

The Manufacturing Systems Certificate program at Auburn University is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge in manufacturing systems. The curriculum explores the design, analysis, and operation of these systems, encompassing the integration of human capital, machinery, equipment, tooling, controls, and infrastructure. Students will gain practical experience through application-based coursework, leveraging state-of-the-art labs and classroom environments. The program's core focus is understanding the intricate interplay of material and information flow within manufacturing processes. Successful completion of the certificate demonstrates proficiency in key manufacturing principles and prepares graduates for roles in various manufacturing sectors.

Course Structure

The certificate program requires a total of 12 credit hours. Core courses include Six Sigma (INSY 6330, 3 hours) and Lean Systems (INSY 6800, 3 hours). Students then choose two additional courses from a list of electives that cover topics such as Production and Inventory Control Systems, Simulation-based Planning and Scheduling, Vehicle Technology and Trends, Control of the Manufacturing Floor and Processes, Electronics Manufacturing Systems, Innovations in Manufacturing Systems, Applied Discrete-event Simulation Modeling, and various special topics courses in industrial and systems engineering (INSY 7940, INSY 7970, INSY 8970). Special topics courses require departmental approval and may only count towards the certificate depending on the topic. Students cannot receive credit for both 5xxx and the corresponding 6xxx level courses. Completing INSY 6800 and INSY 6330 with at least a B average earns students a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
