Yangtze University is a full-time public university, primarily situated in Jingzhou City in the middle part of the Yangtze River in the province of Hubei, People's Republic of China. Named after the longest river in China, the university is run in collaboration with the Hubei Provincial Government and large national corporations like the China National Petroleum Corporation and Sinopec. The university was established and is offering various levels of degree programs in various fields like engineering, agriculture, science, medicine, management, and art. The university currently holds over 34,000 undergraduates, about 8,000 postgraduates, and an increasing number of international students.
(2003) Origins and Establishment
It was established in May 2003 on the approval of the Ministry of Education of China through the combination of Jianghan Petroleum Institute, Hubei Agricultural College, Jingzhou Teachers College, and Hubei Provincial Medical College for Health Professionals. Although its formal founding year is considered to be 2003, through its predecessor schools, the university’s educational roots go back to 1936, making it one of the deeper-rooted centers of higher learning in the region. The merger brought together strengths in petroleum science, agriculture, teacher training, and healthcare education, forming a multidisciplinary university equipped to serve regional and national needs.
Modern Day Development
Today Yangtze University has developed into the largest comprehensive university in Hubei Province. Yangtze University's disciplines of engineering, agriculture, clinical medicine, and earth sciences are internationally well-regarded based on high ESI rankings since it has partnered with over 100 countries. Yangtze University boasts extensive research facilities and modern educational buildings and laboratories. The global programs of Yangtze University have been able to attract students worldwide, and it can facilitate student and researcher exchanges and cooperation in global joint research and global talent cultivation.
