(1958) Origins and Establishment
Guangzhou Medical University (GMU) was established in 1958 as Guangzhou Medical College. This was in recognition of the increasing need for qualified medical personnel in the Province of Guangdong in China. The university was formed by the Chinese government in accordance with the directions of the Chinese Ministry of Health and started its journey in becoming a leading medical place of study. GMU would go on to expand in terms of size and influence as it transformed into an all-encompassing medical university. This would include education as well as medical studies. It would not be until 2005 that it changed its name to Guangzhou Medical University.
Modern Day Development
Guangzhou Medical University has made rapid progress both in terms of academic growth and development infrastructure. The university has added several fields of study to a wide range of existing classes, especially with respect to medical specialties, pharmacy, and Chinese medicines.
