Gothenburg's historic center reveals its establishment in 1621 by King Gustav II Adolf: the fortified trading city, positioned strategically on Sweden's west coast. Public transport in Gothenburg is efficiently provided by the local agency Västtrafik, which offers an extensive network that forms the backbone of urban mobility. It consists of trams-an iconic mode of public transportation for Gothenburg-covering nearly all major routes across the city center and large parts of the surrounding boroughs; buses, complementing the tram network and connecting outer neighborhoods; and local ferries crossing the Gota älv river.
