(1992) Origins and Establishment
RGU traces its roots back to the mid-18th century when Robert Gordon, an Aberdeen merchant, founded Robert Gordon's Hospital in 1729 to provide education for the sons of poor burgesses. Over the years, the institution evolved, merging with other educational establishments and eventually becoming Robert Gordon's Technical College in 19104. In 1992, it was granted university status and became Robert Gordon University.
Modern Day Development
In recent years, RGU has continued to grow and develop its campus and academic offerings. The university invested £120 million in state-of-the-art facilities at its Garthdee campus, completed in 20135. RGU is also a leader in online learning, offering a wide range of courses to students around the world.
