We are one of the very few universities to be both a member of the Russell Group and have a Gold award from the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), evidence of our established international reputation for excellence in both teaching and research. Our success is built on a strong partnership with our students and a clear focus on high performance.
(1955) Origins and Establishment
The University of Exeter traces its roots back to 1855 with the founding of the Exeter School of Art. Over the next century, it evolved, merging with the Exeter School of Science and becoming the Royal Albert Memorial College in 1900. In 1922, it was renamed the University College of the South West of England, and finally, in 1955, it received its royal charter as the University of Exeter. Today, it's a leading research-intensive university with campuses in Exeter and Cornwall, known for its academic excellence and commitment to sustainability.
Modern Day Development
The University of Exeter is currently undergoing significant development, with a focus on enhancing its research facilities, student experience, and sustainability. Key projects include the expansion of the Penryn Campus in Cornwall, the redevelopment of the St. Luke's Campus in Exeter, and investments in new student residences and a multifaith center. The university is also committed to sustainability initiatives, such as the installation of a wind turbine at the Penryn Campus and the development of a new "Exeter Engineering 2030" strategy.

The University of Exeter's mission is to transform lives through the power of higher education. As a leading international university, they strive to undertake groundbreaking research and deliver a world-class student experience in a campus environment of outstanding natural beauty.
