(1963) Origins and Establishment
In 1834, the School of Medicine and Surgery was founded in Newcastle, marking the university's inception. This was followed by the establishment of the College of Physical Science in 1871. These institutions later merged to form King's College in 1937. In 1963, King's College became the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Modern Day Development
Today, Newcastle University is organized into three faculties: Humanities and Social Sciences; Medical Sciences; and Science, Agriculture, and Engineering. It offers over 200 undergraduate and 300 postgraduate programs. The university has expanded internationally with campuses in Singapore and Malaysia.
