(1954) Origins and Establishment
Long Island University (LIU) Post, originally known as C.W. Post College, was founded in 1954 as a branch of Long Island University. It was named after Charles William Post, the founder of the Postum Cereal Company, whose legacy helped shape the establishment of the college. C.W. Post College was established to provide higher education opportunities to the rapidly growing Long Island area, and it began as a small institution offering undergraduate programs. Over the years, the university expanded both in terms of academic offerings and physical infrastructure. In 1976, the college became an independent, four-year institution within the Long Island University system and was renamed Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus. As the university grew, it added graduate programs, professional degrees, and state-of-the-art facilities to meet the evolving needs of students.
