(1959) Origins and Establishment
Saskatchewan Polytechnic was officially established in 2014, evolving from the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST), which had been in operation since 1988. SIAST itself was formed by merging four technical institutes: Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon, Wascana Institute in Regina, Palliser Institute in Moose Jaw, and Woodland Institute in Prince Albert. These institutes had been providing technical and vocational education since the 1950s. The rebranding to Saskatchewan Polytechnic reflected its expanded role in applied learning, research, and industry collaboration, solidifying its position as the province’s leading institution for polytechnic education.
Modern Day Development
In recent years, Saskatchewan Polytechnic has expanded its role in applied education, research, and industry partnerships. The institution has integrated cutting-edge technology into its programs, offering hybrid and online learning options to accommodate a diverse student population. It has strengthened collaborations with industries to provide work-integrated learning opportunities, ensuring graduates are job-ready. Saskatchewan Polytechnic has also focused on sustainability, Indigenous education initiatives, and global partnerships, enhancing its reputation as a leader in applied learning. Continuous investment in modern infrastructure, updated curricula, and research projects has positioned the institution at the forefront of polytechnic education in Canada.

The mission of Saskatchewan Polytechnic is to provide applied learning opportunities, innovative research, and industry-driven education to prepare students for successful careers. The institution is committed to fostering hands-on, practical training that meets the evolving needs of industries and communities. By emphasizing inclusivity, sustainability, and collaboration, Saskatchewan Polytechnic aims to contribute to economic growth and workforce development in Saskatchewan, Canada, and beyond.
